Turn $250 in FREE Product Coupons Into $500 Worth of Groceries

Let’s Turn $250 in FREE Product Coupons into $500! What if I told you that writing a quick email to your favorite companies could turn into hundreds of dollars in FREE products?

And then… what if I told you I don’t always use those FREE product coupons right away?

That is where the REAL fun begins. 🙌

I have been writing companies, telling them how much our family enjoys their products, and asking if they have any coupons available. And yes — companies really do still mail coupons! Some send money-off coupons, some send several coupons at once, and occasionally you hit the couponing jackpot:

A coupon for a completely FREE full-size product!

This isn’t just something we’re seeing ourselves. Other couponers continue to report receiving high-value and free-product manufacturer coupons simply by contacting brands through their websites.

But here’s the part I REALLY want to talk about:

Don’t Be Too Quick to Use That FREE Coupon!

When a coupon for a FREE product shows up in my mailbox, my first instinct is:

FREE?! I’m going shopping! 😂

But WAIT.

Unless that coupon is getting close to its expiration date, I like to hang onto it and watch the sales.

Why?

Because that one FREE coupon may be worth even MORE when the right deal comes along.

Here is our guide to FREE Full Size Products!

My Favorite Strategy: Wait for a BOGO Sale

Let’s say a company sends you a coupon for:

FREE Product — Up to $7.99 Value

You could walk into the store tomorrow, grab one and pay $0.

That’s already fantastic.

But suppose a few weeks later that same product goes on:

BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE

Depending on the store’s BOGO and coupon policies, that FREE-product manufacturer coupon could potentially make an already-good promotion even better.

Coupon policies vary significantly by retailer and sometimes by location, so always check the store’s current coupon and BOGO rules before planning your deal.

That’s the difference between simply using coupons and strategically using coupons.

Then Check Your Rebate Apps!

This is another reason I don’t immediately run out and use every coupon that arrives.

Before shopping, I check my rebate and rewards apps.

There may be an offer available for the SAME product.

Think:

SALE + MANUFACTURER COUPON + REBATE + STORE REWARDS

When the terms allow them to be combined, those savings can add up FAST.

You might find cash-back offers, store rewards, loyalty offers, bonuses or other promotions that make an already-free or inexpensive product an even better deal.

Important: Always read the terms of each rebate. Some rebate offers specifically prohibit combining their offer with manufacturer coupons or other discounts. Don’t assume an offer can be stacked just because it appears in your app.

This Is How $250 in FREE Products Can Become $500 in Value

This is why I get so excited about these coupons.

If companies send you $250 worth of FREE full-size product coupons, you don’t necessarily have to think of them as only$250 worth of savings.

By patiently watching for:

BOGO sales + store promotions + rebates + loyalty rewards + bonuses

you may be able to stretch the value of those coupons considerably further.

Imagine turning $250 worth of FREE product coupons into $500 worth of products and savings simply because you waited for the right deals!

Will every coupon work that way? Of course not.

But couponing isn’t about making every single coupon into some gigantic deal. It’s about recognizing the GREAT opportunities when they appear.

How Do You Get These Coupons?

Start with products you actually use and love.

Walk through your kitchen.

Open the refrigerator.

Check your freezer, pantry, bathroom, laundry room and even your pet supplies.

Write down the brands your family buys regularly.

Then visit the company’s official website and look for its Contact Us page.

Send them a short, genuine message. Tell them what product you love, why your family buys it, or even which flavor is your favorite.

You can also simply ask whether they offer coupons to customers.

Make sure you include your mailing address when appropriate because some companies will actually send the coupons through regular mail. Couponers using this strategy have reported receiving everything from modest money-off coupons to multiple high-value coupons and FREE-product coupons.

What Should You Say?

Keep it SIMPLE.

You don’t need to write a novel.

Something as easy as this works:

Hi! Our family absolutely loves your [PRODUCT NAME]. It’s something we purchase regularly, and I wanted to let you know how much we enjoy it. I was wondering if you ever offer coupons or savings to customers? I would love to receive any that may be available. Thank you for making a product our family loves!

That’s it!

A few minutes of your time could result in a very happy mailbox a few weeks later.

Keep Track of Who You Contact

This is one tip I highly recommend.

Make a simple list or spreadsheet with:

Company | Date Contacted | Response | Coupons Received | Expiration Date

It keeps you from repeatedly contacting the same companies and helps you keep track of those valuable coupons once they arrive. Tracking the companies you’ve contacted is also a commonly recommended strategy among experienced couponers.

And Remember — Not Every Company Will Send Something

Some companies will say no.

Some won’t respond.

Some will direct you to digital coupons.

Some might send you a couple of $1 coupons.

And then every once in a while…

💥 FREE FULL-SIZE PRODUCT COUPON!

Those are the envelopes we’re looking for!

Don’t get discouraged if every company doesn’t send something. Even a handful of great coupons can make the small amount of time spent contacting companies completely worth it.

The Challenge: Don’t Just Get It FREE — Stretch That FREEBIE!

This is where I’m challenging myself now.

Instead of looking at my pile of FREE product coupons and thinking:

“Look how much free stuff I can get!”

I’m thinking:

“How MUCH can I turn this into?”

Can I wait for a BOGO?

Can I find a rebate?

Can I pair it with a store promotion?

Can I earn rewards?

Can one FREE coupon somehow help me bring home TWO products?

That’s the game.

And THAT is how we’re going to see just how far we can stretch over $250 in FREE full-size product coupons.

Could we turn $250 into $500?

We’re going to find out! 🙌

Follow Grounded in Thyme as we share the companies we’re writing, the coupons showing up in our mailbox, and — most importantly — how we’re using them to score the BEST possible deals.

Because getting something FREE is great.

Getting even MORE for FREE? That’s my kind of couponing. 😂
