DIY Mason Jar Valentine (A Little Handmade Love)
Most people in my immediate circle know that I love to craft. I’ve always been drawn to the kind of projects that feel personal—the ones that say “I thought of you” without needing a big budget or a trip to the store for something fancy.
Over the years, I’ve made so many little handmade gifts for friends, family, coworkers, and teachers. Crafting has been my creative outlet for as long as I can remember, and I even poured that love into my Etsy shop for a while. There’s just something special about giving (or receiving) something that was made by hand—even if it’s simple.
Now that we have this beautiful space here at Grounded in Thyme, I wanted to start sharing some of my favorite, easy projects with you. The kind of crafts that don’t require perfection, just a little time and a lot of heart.
That’s how this DIY Mason Jar Valentine came to be.
It’s perfect for work, home, or Valentine’s parties—and it’s one of those projects that looks thoughtful but doesn’t feel overwhelming. All you need to do is click the Cricut project link, and it will take you straight to the design. No guesswork, no extra steps, no tweaking required.
As a little love note from us to you, this project is free for our Grounded in Thyme readers.
Fill the jar with conversation hearts, candy, or small treats, and you’ve got an easy, heartfelt Valentine that works for coworkers, friends, or anyone who could use a little sweetness.
Below, I’ll walk you through exactly what you need and how to put it together—because crafting should feel fun, not stressful.
DIY Mason Jar Valentine
Equipment
- Cricut
- Cricut mat I used the standard grip mat
- printer
Materials
- heavy card stock
- 3"x3" baggies
- double sided tape
- candy of choice candy hearts, skittles, M&M's
Instructions
- Open the Project
- Use the Cricut Design Space link provided and choose Customize or Make It to open the project.
- Customize (Optional) – The design comes flattened so it’s ready to print as-is. If you’d like to customize anything (text, colors, or layout), unflatten the project first. After making your changes, be sure to flatten the design again before moving on.
- When you’re happy with the design (or if you’re keeping it as-is), click Make in the top right corner of Design Space.
- Set Your Material Size – Select 8.5 x 11 for your material size if it isn’t already selected, then click Continue.
- Print the Design – Choose Send to Printer and print your project.
- If you keep the design at its original size, you’ll get three mason jars per page.
- Prepare for Cutting – Place your printed cardstock onto a Cricut mat and use a Cricut roller or brayer to make sure it’s securely attached.
- Select Base Material in Design Space, select the correct card stock weight for your paper.
- Cut & Fill – While your Cricut is cutting the jars, fill your small bags with candy or treats.
- Assemble – Once everything is cut, apply double-sided tape to the back of each jar and attach a filled candy bag.
Notes
I tested glue tape and didn’t love the hold— I suggest a double sided tape for scrapbooking, something that can hold a little more weight. Finish & Enjoy
Attach your baggies, straighten everything up, and you’re done!
You now have super cute, handmade Valentines ready to share.
What You’ll Need for this DIY Mason Jar Valentine:
- Cricut machine – any model will work
- Cricut cutting mat – I used a 12×12 mat
- Cricut brayer/applicator – I use this on every project to make sure the cardstock stays put
- Heavy cardstock – I recommend 110 lb weight
- 3″ x 3″ clear baggies – perfect for candy or small treats
- Scrapbook tape or strong double-sided tape – there are lots of good options; I’ve found a surprisingly great one at Dollar Tree in the past
- Candy
