This Beach House Sugar Scrub brings a little sunshine to gift giving. Coconut, soft vanilla, and a touch of orange give it a warm tropical scent, while fine sugar and a blend of oils leave skin feeling smooth. Spoon it into a jar, add a simple tag, and you have a lovely handmade gift.

Sugar and oils

1¼ cups fine sugar
¼ cup virgin, unrefined coconut oil
2 tablespoons fractionated coconut oil
2 tablespoons jojoba oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil, optional

Beach House scent

¼ teaspoon vanilla oleoresin
4 drops benzoin resinoid
12 drops sweet orange essential oil
Up to 1 teaspoon coconut fragrance oil that the supplier approves for use in a rinse-off body scrub

If you’re using Nature’s Oil Aruba Coconut Fragrance Oil, start with less than a teaspoon and add more only after checking its skin-use directions. Fragrance oils have different limits for different products, so check the supplier’s guidance for your exact oil before making a gift. IFRA

How to make it

Soften the coconut oil until you can stir it easily. It should be soft, not hot.
In a clean, dry bowl, combine the virgin coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil, if using.
Stir in the vanilla, benzoin, sweet orange essential oil, and an approved amount of coconut fragrance oil. Mix until evenly blended.
Add the sugar a little at a time, stirring until every grain is coated.
Let the scrub sit for 15–30 minutes, then stir once more.
Spoon it into a clean, completely dry jar and close the lid.

The scrub is ready to use right away. If you have time, let the closed jar sit for 24–48 hours before gifting so you can smell how the fragrance settles together.

Adjust the texture

Want a softer scrub? Stir in 1 teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil. If it seems too loose, add 1–2 tablespoons of sugar. Check the texture again the next day, since coconut oil can firm up or soften with room temperature.

Tie a wooden scoop or spoon to the jar with ribbon and add a tag that says:
