Family Mocktail Night Box: A Holiday Gift Everyone Can Enjoy

Some of the best gifts give everyone an excuse to slow down and spend an evening together. This Family Mocktail Night Box has everything for a festive drink station, plus a little nudge to put on a movie, play a game, and make a memory. It works for a family with kids, a couple, or a friend who loves hosting—and no one needs to be the designated bartender.

You can make the box as simple or as fancy as you like. The main idea is to include a few mix-and-match ingredients, one easy recipe card, and something fun to do while you sip.

What to put in the box

For one gift box that makes about six drinks, gather:

  • One 64-ounce bottle of cranberry juice cocktail (or a cranberry blend)
  • One 2-liter bottle of ginger ale or two 1-liter bottles of sparkling water
  • Two oranges or clementines, packed separately
  • One small jar of orange rimming sugar (optional)
  • One small jar of dried cocktail garnishes, such as dehydrated orange slices and cinnamon sticks (optional)
  • Six festive paper straws or drink stirrers
  • A printed recipe card
  • A family activity: a card game, holiday movie suggestion card, trivia questions, or a packet of popcorn
  • A sturdy gift box, basket, or reusable tray

The optional garnish jar and orange rimming sugar make this a lovely companion gift to the other DIYs in our holiday series. If you have already made them, tuck a little of each into this box. There is no need to make a separate project just for this gift.

The easy family mocktail

Cranberry-Orange Holiday Fizz

The Cranberry-Orange Holiday Fizz is a bright, bubbly mocktail made with cranberry juice, ginger ale or sparkling water, and fresh orange. It’s easy for the whole family to make and festive enough for holiday celebrations.
Serving Size 8

Ingredients

  • 3 cups chilled cranberry juice cocktail
  • 3 cups chilled ginger ale or sparkling water
  • 1 orange sliced into thin rounds or wedges
  • Ice
  • Dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks for garnish if using
  • Orange rimming sugar if using

Instructions

  • If using rimming sugar, lightly wet the rim of each glass with an orange wedge and dip it in the sugar.
  • Add ice to the glasses. Divide the cranberry juice among them.
  • Top with ginger ale or sparkling water just before serving. Stir gently.
  • Add a fresh orange slice and an optional dried garnish. Enjoy right away while it is bubbly.

Notes

Make it your own: Ginger ale makes a sweeter, kid-friendly drink. Sparkling water makes a lighter version. Set out both if your family likes choices. For a less sweet option, use 100% cranberry juice blend and taste before serving; straight unsweetened cranberry juice is quite tart.

How to assemble the gift

Place the heavier bottles in the back of the box. Add crinkle paper or a folded kitchen towel to keep everything snug. Put the oranges in a small paper bag so they do not roll around, then add your jars, straws, recipe card, and activity in front. Tie on a tag that says “Just add ice and your favorite people.”

If you are gifting this ahead of time, use unopened shelf-stable bottles and dry garnishes. Add the fresh oranges close to gifting day, and remind the recipient to chill the drinks before mocktail night. Keep the rimming sugar and dried garnishes dry and sealed. Once the drinks are mixed, serve promptly and refrigerate any leftovers.

Chill the juice and bubbly drink. Add ice to six glasses, pour in ½ cup cranberry juice per glass, then top each with ½ cup ginger ale or sparkling water. Add an orange slice, pick a game or movie, and enjoy your night together!

A few ways to personalize it

  • For little kids: Add a holiday coloring book or silly conversation cards and use sturdy, kid-friendly cups.
  • For teens: Add a favorite snack and let them create names for their mocktails.
  • For a host family: Include extra dried garnishes and a set of reusable stirrers.
  • For a budget-friendly gift: Skip the jars and fancy straws. A bottle of each drink, two oranges, popcorn, and a handwritten recipe card still make a thoughtful box.

This is the kind of gift that does not need to look perfect to be special. Pack the ingredients, give them a reason to gather, and let the evening be the present.
