Gothic Pressed Flower Wax Melts: A Moody Handmade Gift
These Gothic Pressed Flower Wax Melts have that feeling: deep charcoal wax, a warm floral scent, and delicate pressed flowers displayed on the package. They fit right into Halloween gifting, but they’re pretty enough to give all fall and winter.
The pressed flowers are part of the presentation, not the wax. That way, the finished melts are simple to use and the warmer dish stays free of petals.
Gothic Pressed Flower Wax Melts Recipe

Active time: 20–30 minutes
Setting time: Several hours, plus any cure time recommended by your wax supplier

Scent idea: Choose one candle-safe fragrance oil with notes of dark rose, amber, vanilla, or wood. A rose-and-amber blend is especially lovely for the gothic look. Check that your specific fragrance is approved for wax melts and that 6% is within your wax manufacturer’s allowed fragrance load.
How to Make Them
- Prepare the molds. Set clean, dry molds on a level, heat-safe surface. Weigh the wax and fragrance separately with a scale.
- Melt the wax. Add the wax to a pouring pitcher set in a gently simmering double boiler. Heat it according to the instructions for your particular wax, checking the temperature with a thermometer. Never leave melting wax unattended.
- Add the color. Stir in a little black candle dye until the wax looks like a deep charcoal. Soy wax may dry lighter than it looks while melted, so begin with a small amount. Do not use crayons, food coloring, or mica unless the product maker specifically says it is suitable for wax melts.
- Add fragrance. At the temperature recommended by the wax maker, add the measured fragrance oil. Stir gently and thoroughly for about two minutes. Keep the amount within both your wax and fragrance makers’ limits.
- Pour. Let the wax reach the pour temperature listed for your wax, then carefully fill the molds. Leave the tops plain. If using plastic clamshells, check that they are rated for your pouring temperature.
- Set and unmold. Let the melts cool undisturbed until completely firm. Unmold silicone shapes or close the clamshells. Follow the wax supplier’s cure recommendation before gifting or using them.
How to Get the Pressed Flower Look
Press small flowers or petals between sheets of absorbent paper under a heavy book until they are completely dry and flat. You can also buy ready-pressed flowers. Arrange a few on a cardstock sleeve or box lid and secure them there, away from the melts. If you use a clear-front box, the dark shapes and flowers make a beautiful contrast.

A little mystery for your favorite room
Scent: Rose + Amber
A plum ribbon, black twine, or an antique-looking tag finishes the gift without much fuss. Add a wax warmer if you want to turn it into a larger hostess gift.
How to Use and Store
Place one or two pieces in an approved electric wax warmer, following the warmer’s fill and use instructions. Start with less if your warmer dish is small. Never put wax melts over a flame or add water. Keep the warmer on a stable, heat-resistant surface and out of reach of children and pets. Turn it off when you leave the room or go to sleep.
Store unused melts in a closed package in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. Fragrance strength varies by formula and storage conditions, so there is no guaranteed scent life. Keep the dried flowers attached to the packaging and out of the warmer dish.
A quick note for gifting: Label the fragrance and ingredients as supplied by your manufacturers, particularly if your recipient is sensitive to scents. These are for home fragrance only—not for skin, food, or candle burning.
This is the kind of gift that feels delightfully dramatic while still being easy to make in an afternoon. Make a few extra, because you may want one for your own warmer when the evenings start feeling a little haunted.
